Epilogue (New Orleans, LA)

A special thanks to my two final hosts - Tanya Huang on Wednesday and the Bopp Family on Thursday. Their graciousness allowed me to stay and enjoy New Orleans a couple more days after my walk was over. And it allowed me to stay long enough to watch Alabama win the National Championship. I was cheering in spirit with all the many Crimson Tide fans who had hosted me on my journey through Alabama.

Now it is time to go home ....

Hi there,
Just found your blog while researching following your bliss. Wonderful adventure!

Did you know that a woman named Peace Pilgrim walked over 25,000 miles for Peace years ago - same principle...clothes on her back and the hospitality of strangers. When she was not offered food or shelter, she went hungry and slept outside. She is one of my heroes.

Who is this walking man?

I was born in West Hebron, NY in 1973 and lived there until I was 10. It was, quite simply, a wonderful place to grow up, full of genuine, caring people who I still consider to be like family. In 1984 my family moved to Harare, Zimbabwe where my father became the assistant pastor of the City Presbyterian Church. Again, fate smiled my way. Despite a tantrum or two (or eight) during my early days in a strange land, the next three years opened my eyes to a world that was infinitely bigger, more diverse, but just as loving as the one I first grew up in.

I returned to the United States for the end of junior high and high school. I attended Lehigh University and earned a degree in Journalism with a minor in African American history. In the fourteen years since college I have put together a motley resume, interspersed with a number of travel adventures. I've been a teacher, an assistant office manager, an executive assistant and - ever so briefly - an extra on a TV show. I've lived in Philly, Los Angeles and now in New York. I've been lucky enough to travel across this beautiful country quite a few times, twice by car, once by Greyhound and now, finally, on my own two feet.
